6 of the Best Wedding Venues in Portugal’s Algarve

A home away from home for many Brits, Portugal is a lovely and laidback wedding location for good reason. Delicious food, hot sunny weather, stunning architecture and easy and affordable to get to from the UK, it’s a great failsafe choice for a destination wedding. Algarve is a particularly well loved region of Portugal, so we’ve rounded up 6 of our favourite venues there to get you inspired.

1. Os Agostos

Located in Faro, the bohemian and laidback Os Agostos can host weddings for up to 150 of your guests. For your ceremony, say your vows outside in the gardens or inside in The Stables or The Cellar. For the reception, they have a plethora of locations for you to choose from too, including the Olive Press House, lots of courtyards, a barn and an orange grove. The venue also has 5 guest bedrooms available, so your nearest and dearest can stay with you.

2. Estoi Palace

Like something out of a Wes Anderson film, the beautiful Estoi Palace features a pretty pastel pink and blue and white tiled facade and perfectly displays Rococo designed architecture. The XVIII century palace, which is also a luxury hotel, has an abundance of spaces to host your wedding in and is surrounded by well-manicured gardens that are ideal for your drinks reception and photos. With adaptable spaces, the venue can easily cater to weddings both large and small.

3. Quinta Torneiro

A pretty and authentically Portuguese wedding destination, Quinta Torneiro is located just 15 minutes from downtown Lisbon, despite feeling quite rural in style. The historic estate is more than 200 years old and is surrounded by lush gardens. Featuring a vintage and light colour palette throughout, host your ceremony within their sweet chapel complete with blue and white tiles or within the gardens. Follow this up with cocktails in the French garden and your wedding breakfast outside with the house as your backdrop, or inside one of their event spaces.

4. Pousada Convento Tavira

A striking former convent, Pousada Convento Tavira is a magical feeling wedding venue that feels thoroughly Portuguese with its bright sunny yellow facade. Located nice and close to the beach, Faro airport and the local town with bars and restaurants, there’s plenty to keep your guests entertained on the days around the wedding. Host your ceremony within their chapel or in the neighbouring church, followed by a reception under twinkly lights in the courtyard. The day after, enjoy a fun pool party as your guests nurse their hangovers and make the most of a pizza buffet.

5. Casa Monte Cristo Collection

Sitting high on top of the Funchal Ridge overlooking the pretty region of Lagos, Casa Monte Cristo is a luxury 6 bedroom villa that can sleep up to 12 of your nearest and dearest, along with an additional little cottage that can sleep 2. The villa doubles up as a lovely intimate wedding venue with its own wedding planner, and they can host between 40 - 100 of your guests for your ceremony and reception.

6. QO: Quinta Das Oliveiras

Regarded as one of the finest Quintas in the region, Quinta Das Oliveiras is a large country estate in Western Algarve that is perfect for a house party style wedding. Overlooking Lagos and the Atlantic Ocean, it is nestled in secluded hills so gives you plenty of privacy on your wedding day. Host your wedding either on the pool terrace for between 50 to 150 guests or within a marquee on the tennis court for up to 250 guests. The venue is hired out on a private dry hire basis, accompanied by experienced event staff for full wedding planning or simply on the day wedding coordination. It can sleep 14 guests within their 6 bedrooms and is just a 45 minute drive from Faro airport.
