6 Stunning Wedding Venues Around Uppsala

Known as the Cambridge of Sweden and the 4th largest city in the country, Uppsala is home to an abundance of history, innovation and education surrounded by beautiful countryside. To name just a few of its accolades, its home to Scandinavia’s largest cathedral, a royal Castle of Swedish monarchs and is the location of Uppsala University, the oldest centre of higher education in Sweden. It’s also a very sustainable city, having won WWF’s international One Planet City Challenge a few years ago. Add to that the lovely river running through the middle and it being simply 35 minutes by train from Stockholm, it’s a wonderful location for a Swedish wedding, whether you’re from the country or hoping to have a destination wedding there.

1. Grand Hotell Hõrnan

Built in 1907 and newly renovated, this 4 star hotel resides right in the centre of Uppsala, with views of the castle, cathedral and the path along the Fyrisån all around. It is a lovely and welcoming family run hotel that is regarded as the city’s leading wedding hotel. Tucked within it’s Neo-Baroque architecture, you’ll find an elegant reception space, a hotel bar with a taste of the twenties and 37 rooms for your guests to sleep in.

2. Hotel Villa Anna

A small and personal hotel that is known for it’s warm welcome and homely feel, Hotel Villa Anna is located in a desirable spot between the cathedral, Uppsala University and the Gustavianum. Designed by the architects behind the Grand Hotel in Stockholm, they can host everything from intimate to medium sized weddings, with the ability to fit 15 - 86 guests seated. The entire hotel can be taken over for your wedding and they have a beautiful wedding suite available for the newlyweds and 11 further bedrooms for your guests.

3. Elite Hotel Academia

Featuring amazing rooftop view over the city from their panoramic event space, Elite Hotel Academia is a lovely modern hotel in a prime location right next to Uppsala Central Station. It can host up to 160 of your guests for the reception with 10 different spaces to choose from, and has an impressive 198 bedrooms for your guests to stay in too. There are also three restaurants on site, for meals around the wedding day itself.

4. Odinsborg

One of the country’s very first courthouses, Odinsborg is a beautiful and quaint restaurant housed within a wooden building that is a typical example of Swedish architecture. It is a well known venue for parties and celebrations, with several rooms to choose from on their party floor, that can host from 10 to 100 guests. With the Old Uppsala Church close by, you can host your ceremony there followed by a reception for up to 100 guests within the Knight’s Hall at Odinsborg. They are flexible on catering, with the ability to do everything from three course dinners and buffets to champagne mingles or coffee and cake.

5. Noors Slott

Located in the countryside between Stockholm and Uppsala, just 15 minutes from Arlanda, you’ll find the beautiful Noors Slott. The castle is located between two lakes in a quiet and scenic environment, and you can take over the venue for a full three day wedding weekend if you wish. Arrive on the Friday and be welcomed by a lovely barbecue, enjoy your wedding the next day in the grounds, in a marquee or within their ballroom, followed by a long relaxing breakfast on the Sunday followed by a walk.

6. Herresta Lada

A lovely traditional farmhouse barn wedding venue, Herresta Lada is a beautiful and vibrant backdrop to your wedding day. Set within a rural environment with a romantic central courtyard, the venue has lots of cosy party rooms that can host up to 70 of your guests. You can exclusively rent out the full barn, have complete flexibility about arranging the food and drinks yourself and there’s also 5 bedrooms available that can host up to 9 of your guests. We also love their pretty orangery that we can imagine would be perfect for welcome drinks.
